Evolution of the legal position of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation on the issue of the independence of the court in criminal proceedings

The paper presents the issue of the court’s independence in Russia’s modern criminal procedure. The evolution of the positions of the Russian Constitutional Court on this problem is shown. The author comes to the conclusion that the courts in criminal proceedings are not as independent as they should be. It is necessary to give them ample powers, but it won’t be possible to maintain the principle of adversarial proceedings as it is reflected in the law of criminal procedure.
