Evolution of volunteer management: setting new standards for organizing volunteers in UK cultural institutions

The article presents the key stages in the evolution of volunteer management in cultural institutions in Great Britain during the 20th-21st centuries. The determinant socio-cultural conditions and economic factors that had a decisive influence on the formation of the ideology, the infrastructure of the volunteer movement in cultural institutions and the model for managing volunteer resources were identified. The author paid special attention to the analysis of current trends and features of the organization of a community of caring and proactive voluntary assistants at the sites of cultural institutions. The work reflects the scientific results of research by foreign authors and the Association of Independent Museums of Great Britain.
