A problem of depressive conditions is closely connected with problems of suicidology and cases of emergency in psychiatry. Currently there is no clearly defined understanding of a term Depression, its inner essence, connection with problems of evolution and general biology. A conception of Depression is presented as a condition of non-specific defense – anabiosis. Adaptive character of Depression on a total (body) and partial levels is underlined, as well as its deep, necessary, phase character in contrast to hypotimia. An opinion on careful proscription of antidepressants due to Depression adaptively is stated. Result of depression is secondary atrophy of depressive tissue and disease of secondary depressive desintegration of organism. Involutionary atrophies are explained by chronic depressive condition of the body due to chronic weakening of homeostatic systems.
