Nikolai A. Nevsky (1892-1937), a Russian linguist, folklorist and ethnographer of genius who spent 14 years (1915-29) in Japan is considered to be one of the founding fathers both of Russian oriental studies and of Japanese ethnology, folklore and dialect studies. The article observes academic events (conferences) and publications of 2012-13 held in Russia and Japan and related to the 120th anniversary of his birth.
