The Yugoslav Model in the Chinese Mirror (1977–1980): from Doubt to Recognition

The article is devoted to the evolution of Chinese perceptions of Yugoslavia in the period from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. Based on the analysis of Chinese official discourse and scholarly publications, it demonstrates how the perception of the Yugoslav model of self-management in China transformed from doubt to admiration. As the analysis in this article shows, China maintained a strong interest in the Yugoslav experience throughout this period; however, its approach remained cautious and restrained.
