Yugoslavian academician G. A. Ostrogorsky (1902-1976) and his works about Byzantine icon veneration (on the occasion of the 115th anniversary of his birth)

In the article is described the way of Russian emigrant George Ostrogorsky from St. Petersburg pre-revolutionary gymnasia through exile to European universities such as Heidelberg and Sorbonne. He was able to accumulate different scientific methods and approaches Russian, German, French, Serbian (later Yugoslavian) due to his close contacts with European scholars and Russian scientific diaspora in Prague and Beograd what helped him to become one of the most prominent Yugoslavian byzantine researcher of the XX century. He analyzed the concept ‘byzantism’ in different angles and spheres: social, political, economic, cultural, but in the inter-war period he studied mainly the issues of iconoclasm. In this article are given some new biographical details concerning this period of Ostrogorsky’s life and also are represented some of his ideas about the mater of the byzantine icon veneration.
