The article examines the initial period of development of Sino-Russian cooperation in law, marked by the opening of the Harbin School of Law as the successor to the Russian academic science. It is noted that the formation of Legal Studies in China was largely determined by the activities of the Harbin School of Law, formed as an independent institution of higher education after the Russian Civil War in 1922, when most of the academic teaching staff of the Far Eastern State University preferred to emigrate from the Soviet state to China, where they continued their professional activities. Through the efforts of Russian educators in the early XX century was created center of legal knowledge in China, which allowed to enrich the legal field of the PRC with new highly qualified personnel and create the potential for its development. The analysis of publications on the problem under study reveals the difference in assessments of the activities of the School of Law from the point of view of Chinese and Russian scholars. However, it is noted that the researchers of the two countries categorically recognize the importance of this university for the development of legal education in China and the establishment of bilateral contacts in this area between the countries.
