To the 150th anniversary of professor A. I. Brilliantov (1867-1933)

The article deals with the biography of the church historian and the Byzantologist, Professor of the St. Petersburg Teological Academy Alexander Ivanovich Brilliantov, the pupil and successor of Professor Vasily Vasilyevich Bolotov. Both scientists were characterized by a scrupulous approach to scientific sources, excellent knowledge of modern domestic and foreign research, detailed consideration of the issues studied, as well as a harmonious and logical methodology. At the same time they had a clear fidelity to the Tradition of the Church and adherence to the traditions of church and academic science. As a result, such scientific and ascetic synthesis resulted in fruitful and diverse scientific and archival activities, which could not but be reflected in the public recognition of its results, both in the tsarist and in the Soviet period of the life of A. I. Brilliantov
