On the 35th anniversary of higher geographical education in the Buryat Republic: the main milestones of the chronological history

In 2023, the Department of Geography and Ecology of D. Banzarov’s Buryat State University celebrates 35 years since its foundation in 1988. The anniversary article describes the history of the department in chronological order of the most significant events. Few people know, but the department was first established in 1942 at the Biological Faculty of the Buryat-Mongolian Pedagogical Institute by Prof. N. G. Nikolaev, who worked here until 1945. In 1988, the department was reopened and began purposeful work on training geography teachers, geographers and highly qualified personnel. The names of currently working teachers and staff of the department and its first composition, the activities of Dissertation Councils in geographical sciences are given. The main result of the activity of the scientific and pedagogical staff of the department is the training of more than two thousand professional geographers and 68 candidates of sciences.
