The article is devoted to the memory of an Englishman Charles Sydney Gibbes, an English tutor to the children of the last Russian Emperor. Having witnessed the martyrdom of the Royal family, Gibbes embraced Orthodoxy and took, in their memory, the names Alexis at baptism and Nicholas at his monastic tonsure, eventually becoming an Orthodox priest. Archimandrite Nicholas founded the first ever Orthodox parish in Oxford and a museum in memory of the family of Emperor Nicholas II
