Based on the archival data introduced, the author discusses the life of the Chechens and Ingush in special settlements in 1944-1957. Nowadays, research on the socialization of deportees from the North Caucasus takes on a new scientific, social and political significance. Besides, the new facts hidden because of the ideology of Soviet totalitarianism become available. The socialization of the Chechens in special settlements should be investigated to develop and implement the evidence-based social and demographic policy of the state on the basis of a comprehensive retrospective analysis of the country’s development. Moreover, the study of these problems plays an important role in educating the younger generation about the ideals of patriotism, consolidating civil peace and interethnic harmony in both the Chechen Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
