The article discusses the ideas of the British and the social practices of the Jesuits, adapted by Catherine II to the Russian reality to create a model township peasant society («community») - who turned out in historical perspective, one of the most viable national institutions. Materials borrowed author for the study findings will contribute to a more adequate view of the history of Russian statehood.
