The article deals with philosophical and methodological works, polemic articles and letters of Nikholai Strakhov, one of the prominent Russian thinkers of the 19th century. The author proves that he was one of the first to analyze the risks of systemic abstract constructions in human knowledge. The study shows that Strakhov’ holistic methodological strategy is still significant from the epistemological and worldview points.
