The study reviewed the integration processes in the Arab World in the 1940s-1980s. At the time, Arab nationalism and Islamism were the main ideological platforms for political integration. After the Second World War, Arab nationalism became the dominant form of political integration pushing Islamist ideas into the background until the 1970s, when there had been a shift from Arab nationalism to Islamist period of integration. The authors analyzed the programs of the leaders in several Arab states whose slogans had become a part of the foundations of Arab nationalism. The research examined the ideological platforms, various projects of political integration as well as the high and low points of Arab nationalism and Islamism. For a number of reasons, Arab nationalism as a form of integration gave way to Islamist ideology which became an effective alternative to the ideas of Arab nationalism and a valid platform for political integration until the end of the 20th century.
