The article, written on the basis of the field expedition material collected in the Qinghai province in the People’s Chinese Republic, briefly outlines the results of the study of the ethnogenesis of the Buryat tribal community of the Khori. It has been found out that the original homeland of the ethnic group called Nayan Navaa was located in Tsaidam on the western side of Lake Kuku-nor near Lake Tsagaan. At the beginning of the VI century, as a result of the interaction of the Khori with the Turkic-speaking Sayan Altai clans, the Khori tribe was formed. Due to the fact that there is a hypothesis about the arrival of the Khori at the Baikal from the north of Iraq, where they presumedly lived in the area of Ninawa, the article reveals the history of this toponym. The analysis of the material does not confirm the correctness of the Iraq version of the ethnogenesis of the Khori.
