On the question of the expediency of preserving the death penalty in modern Russia

The problem of the death penalty is complex and multifaceted. It affects political-legal, socio-economic, moral-religious, cultural-psychological and other spheres of our life. The article analyzes the problematic aspects of the effectiveness and expediency of the application of criminal punishment in the form of life imprisonment. In particular, the shortcomings of this type of punishment are considered in detail, the position of the European Court of Human Rights regarding the execution of a sentence of life imprisonment is stated. This article highlights the circumstances due to which this type of punishment is not applied in the Russian Federation, the main international legal acts regulating the institution of the death penalty. The available scientific approaches to this are revealed, as well as an assumption is made about the future fate of this type of punishment.
