The mid-20th century historical events such as World War II and the following mass repressions were reflected in the literature and described by their direct participants. Facts have ceased to belong to historians only and expanded the artistic space. The article deals with the problem of documentarism in the Russian-language prose by the modern Ingush writer I. Kodzoev. The author claims that all his works are based on the real facts: eyewitness accounts and archival documents. Autobiographical factor is impressive in the collection of short stories and essays “Above the Abyss”. In the novel "Sulumbek Sagopshinsky" I. Kodzoev relies on archival data, and the novel “Collapse” is based on the eyewitness accounts. At the same time, the author, using guesses and sometimes fantasy, provide a necessary degree of artistry into the text, and it allows us to refer I. Kodzoev’s texts to fiction.
