The paper deals with the problems of civil and national education of contemporary youth. The study reveals that associations reflecting the spiritual and moral foundations (pride, love, Motherland) that are traditional for Russia prevail in the first-year students’ ideas about patriotism. The peripheral zone of views implies military associations (war, protection, responsibility) contributing to the development of the militaristic identity. The cluster analysis based on Personal Maturity Questionnaire by Yu.Z. Gilbukh identifies the relationship between such scales as Sense of Civic Duty and Ability to Psychological Bond with Another Person. The research presents the civic and national project implemented at Kursk State Medical University. Memory Will Not Be Delayed as a Wound festival of a military patriotic song is regarded as a condition for the development of patriotism and civil identity among first-year students.
