Diaboliad, one of Bulgakov's early works, was heavily influenced by contemporary cinema. It incorporates features of different genres of films (documentaries, adventure films, German expressionist films etc.). Some characters are depicted in a cinematographic way; they can be compared to characters typical of German silent films. Cinematographic techniques are applied in Diaboliad too (e. g. intertitles, composition resembling film editing, frequent changes of viewpoints etc.). Apparently both Diaboliad and the Master and Margarita were strongly influenced not only by literature but also by contemporary cinema. Bulgakov masters cinematographic technique in Diaboliad to apply it later in his works.
