The focus in this article is set on etymological (historical) memory of the word as a marker of national-cultural specificity of judicial power in England. The object of our research is nationally specific features of linguistic-cultural concept «authority», identified diachronically due to the comparative analysis of differential semes of the words in lexicographic sources of various types. The subject of research is etymologically represented knowledge in the sphere of conceptualization of the main features of mediator as an official representative of judicial power in England. One of the dominant lexemes of the concept in question in our article are participles “identified as…”, “certified”, “qualified”, “approved”, describing mediator’s key features in the context of the one-unit period of the legal discourse. The basic methods of research in this paper are contrastive analysis, definitional and linguistic-cognitive analyses, the basis of which is etymologically represented knowledge, and the method of metaphorical modeling. Within our research, we reveal cognitively important modifications in the semantics of these participles within the evolution of the words, which are viewed on as examples of variability, pragmatic and creative potential of etymological memory of words.
