An approach to the issue of nationally (ethnoculturally) specific valuation ("pride" in English society)

The paper considered the issues of actualizing the national/ethno-cultural specifics of (verbal) valuation, which takes part to the common set of values shared in society and among individuals. The category of valuation being one of the most important components to the language-reflected picture of the world objectifies in language units. It is no accidental that in this respect an axiological picture of the world emerges along with the language-reflected picture of the world. This category represents the purports, and the latter in their turn create, in the aggregate, a certain type of culture which is maintained by and kept in the language. The present paper has shown the outcomes of a linguistic experiment which was aimed at revealing national / ethno-cultural specifics of meanings and personal purports referred to the word ‘pride’ in moral and ethical conceptions in English social medium. Examination of outcomes of the experiment made it possible to revitalize the fragment of the picture of the world shaped by English culture’ agents and bring to light a valuation aspect of this phenomenon.
