On the issue of the directions of modernization of the state memory policy in Russia

The article discusses possible strategic directions of modernization of the state memory policy in Russia. The empirical basis of the study is the data of the expert survey “State Identity Policy in Russia: State and Prospects” (2021), that included a separate block of questions devoted to the condition and potential of the development of memory policy in Russia. Three directions of memory policy modernization are identified. The first direction is cognitive and symbolic and is associated with the gradual expansion of the semantic field of collective memory of the Russian society, elimination of significant gaps in it and construction of a conventional symbolic profile of the collective consciousness. The priority of the state activity in the second - institutional - direction is optimization of the organizational and managerial configuration of the state memory policy, as well as creation of a unified coordinating structure in this sphere. The third - communicative - direction of modernization of memory policy involves the adaptation of state historical content to the new information landscape of Russian society and the transition to full-scale dialog formats of constructing the image of the past. It is emphasized that this task can be effectively solved only taking into account the peculiarities of socialization of various political generations of Russian citizens.
