The article discusses methods of preserving cultural heritage in field research and museum storage. The key attention is paid to the methods of preventive conservation, one of which is the creation of a microenvironment in a closed space. A brief summary of the formation of this industry is given, the terminology is systematized and the relevance of the use of preventive conservation methods is substantiated.
