Revealing the essence of the principles of local self-government, the author comes to the conclusion that local self-government is an independent organization of citizens' activities, which provides a solution to local problems. Local government is the most important prerequisite for the development of legal awareness of the population living in the municipality. The dominance of the population among other subjects of local self-government is also determined by the need to independently solve important issues of local importance, such as ownership, use and disposal of municipal property, as well as the establishment of local taxes and fees.
