Concerning the reasons and the value of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict in august 2008

The article considers the development of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict before military operations in the South Ossetia in August 2008. The author analyses the Georgian-Ossetian relations in the context of the security problems of the Caucasus region and taking into account the national interests of Russia as one of the major mediators of the negotiation process between Georgia and the South Ossetia.
