The article discusses the current state of the use of nontraditional methods in physical training in higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Most of the training methods used in departmental universities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia are distinguished by their monotony and narrow focus, which does not allow for the proper development of all physical qualities: endurance, flexibility, strength, speed and agility, which should be considered a disadvantage. In the training processes of professional athletes, new, nontraditional methods are already being widely introduced and used, which meet all the requirements imposed on employees of internal affairs bodies. Analyzing the available nontraditional methods, it can be concluded that the following methods are the most suitable for introduction into the training process during physical training in departmental universities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia: calisthenics, functional training (cross - fit), statodynamic exercises.
