To the question about the development of orthodoxy in north-west China in the early 1950s

The article characterizes the situation with the development of Orthodoxy in the North-East of China in Xinjiang in the most difficult for the Orthodox Church in the region of the time - early 50-ies of XX century - the period of active departure from the region of the faithful. The author highlights the main problem areas in the current situation and attempt to identify their causes, and taking into account both external and internal factors. A brief historiographical analysis available on the issue of publications. The conclusion about the inadequacy of the materials to recreate a complete picture. The basis of the article comprises the documents of the State archive of the Russian Federation. The main conclusion of the study is the idea that the beginning of the 1950s was the most difficult time for the Orthodox Church in the region. Another observation - the need for further work with sources of different types to form the most complete picture of the development of Orthodoxy of the region.
