On the issue of speech disorders in cerebrovascular diseases

Speech is the most important higher mental function, which is closely connected with other mental processes, such as memory, perception, thinking, imagination, attention. Speech activity occupies the main place in the system of higher mental functions, and considered to be the main mechanism of thinking, conscious human activity. Speech is the main factor of mediation, which means that no complex form of human mental activity is formed and realized without the direct or indirect participation of speech. Speech disorders in cerebrovascular diseases are a frequent complication, in which some patients' speech becomes slurred and confused, while others completely lose the ability to express their thoughts in words. Due to the prevalence of vascular disease and the rejuvenation of stroke, there is still a high research interest in this problem. Patients who have suffered an acute cerebral circulation disorder often experience communication difficulties. These disorders can lead to depression, apathy, anxiety, and cognitive impairment. This article discusses speech disorders that occur as a result of cerebrovascular diseases, their forms, mechanisms of speech disorders and areas of correctional and speech therapy work. The authors consider an interdisciplinary approach in the rehabilitation process of patients who have undergone cerebrovascular diseases.
