In the article were analyzed the prospects of development of road transport, ways to improve the productivity of road transport and reduce the cost of transportation. It is revealed that the operation of electric vehicles in terms of ecology in terms of fuel technologies for the production of electric energy is ineffective, in this regard, the article considers hybrid cars as a necessary link in the transition process of road transport from traditional cars (with power plants based on internal combustion engines) to electric vehicles (with power plants based on electric drive). It follows from the consideration that the most promising are hybrid power plants with series-parallel schemes of coupling of a thermal engine with an electric motor. The article was investigated the specifics of the power plants used in hybrid cars series Toyota Prius and Lexus RX400h, Lexus RX450h.
