The article discusses the typological characteristics of the category of negations in the Avarian language. It is stated that there is no multiple negation, when more than one grammatical means are used for one negation (like ‘ne’ and ‘ni’ in Russian, ‘ne’ and ‘pas’ in French). At the same time, there is a cumulative (focused, strengthened) negation in it. It consists of morphemes with semantics "and, even" which have an emphasizing effect also in affirmative statements.
