In this article there is an attempt to study aspects of the impact of international law on the formation and development of legal mechanisms for the promotion and protection of human rights and freedoms. The author analyzes the formation and development of mechanisms to promote human rights at different historical stages. Main political and legal ideas of prominent thinkers associated with the implementation of human rights are summarized. The article focuses on the development of cooperation between the states in the field of human rights, which is developed both at the universal and regional levels. Some conclusions and proposals for modernization of bases and basic mechanisms for the protection of human rights and freedoms in a difficult international context, as well as the prospects of law in Russia to improve the protection of human rights and freedoms are made. The author draws attention to the need for enhanced efforts of the world community in the area of consolidation and protection of human rights, as well as cooperation with Russia in the human rights activities.
