The article attempts to identify the negative aspects of the process of popularization of science in the sphere of mass media, as well as to outline a number of necessary measures to improve the quality of work of popular science information channels in the context of the continuing decline in the prestige of science, the profession of a scientist, a researcher, as well as the prevalence of a situation of knowledge deficit and a distorted picture of the world in the views of the overwhelming majority of the population of Russia. Without awareness of the significance of this problem, one can hardly count on the effective promotion of the idea of developing the intellectual potential of Russian society, intellectual support for structural changes in the economy, the implementation of modernization of the educational sphere and the creation of conditions for increasing its global competitiveness and export potential. The implementation of these measures is due to the strategic goal of giving a significant impetus to solving the problem of building the most complete adequate picture of the world among representatives of Russian society with a clear understanding of the status of science and the role of the scientific community at the current stage of cultural development, taking into account the stable trend of deanthropologization of knowledge and the destructive deformation of the value system of coordinates.
