The article considers the peculiarities of Robert Southey's ballad «The Inchcape Rock» (1801) translations made by the Russian translators of the second half of the 19th - the beginning of the 20th century F. B. Miller (1858) and A. P. Dobrokhotov (1901). While F. B. Miller tried to recreate typical tonality and spirit as close to the original as possible, A. P. Dobrokhotov, whose work was children-oriented, represented the English ballad in the form of an ancient legend, a saga full of Russified literary details.
