In the XXI-st century, the Russian Federation and the Republic of India have enormous scientific and educational potential. The particularly privileged strategic partnership between the two states and their leaders - Russian President Vladimir V. Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is aimed, among other things, at the development and innovation of scientific and educational cooperation, which has sustainable traditions established in the second half of the XX-th century. The 100-th anniversary of the formation of the USSR, the 75-th anniversary of Indias independence and the establishment of Soviet-Indian diplomatic relations, celebrated in 2022, emphasize the demand for studying the history of cooperation between the two countries in the field of science and higher education during its highest development (1955-1979), their concepts, realities and relevance for Russia and India of the XXI century. The effectiveness of cooperation in science and higher education during this period has never been the subject of research interest of Russian and Indian specialists. In the domestic historical literature there is no fundamental study devoted to this problem, and the purpose of the article is to analyze the current state of Russian and foreign historiography of the studied issue. The novelty lies in the use of comparative analysis of monographs and articles on international Soviet-Indian cooperation in science and higher education for the development of cultural-civilizational system of international relations. The authors come to the conclusion about the necessity of purposeful study of the stated problem within the framework of their research project, according to which for the first time in the domestic historical science the corpus of domestic and Indian archival documents, oral history materials, surveys, domestic and foreign mass media, Internet sites, official accounts of statesmen in social networks will be comprehensively involved in the scientific turnover, historical analysis of some aspects of the stated problem will be given.
