To the issue of ethnic roots and the ethnonym of the Buryat tribe Bulagat

The article suggests a new theory according to which the origin of the ethnonym bulagat is connected with the historical events that took place in Central Asia (XV-XVI centuries). In this regard, the ethnic origin of the tribe and its main group which due to the ancient steppe fighting and hunting traditions had mythopoetic beliefs going back to the wolf totem are revealed. On this basis the relationship of the wolf symbolism with the names of tribal associations of the community and its contingency with the ethnonym bulagat are proved.
