Purpose: Substantiation of proposals for improving of combating crimes in the sphere of illegal traffic in the Russian Federation of precious metals, precious and semiprecious stones. Methodology: Systemic and formal-legal methods were used in the research process. Results: On the basis of the conducted research, it is proposed to amend the criminal legislation in the field of illegal traffic of precious metals, precious and semiprecious stones in terms of clarifying the subjects of the crimes under consideration, as well as moving the article, providing for liability for the unauthorized extraction of precious metals, precious and semiprecious stones, from Chapter 26 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation «Environmental Crimes» into Chapter 22 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation «Crimes in the Sphere of Economic Activity». It is also proposed to develop a unified classification of precious metals, precious and semi-precious stones, approved by the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation. Novelty/originality/value: The importance of the study is due to the latest changes in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation in the field of illegal traffic in precious metals, precious and semi-precious stones, which require the development of theoretical proposals for the application of new provisions of the criminal law. The significance of the research results lies in the development of provisions for improving the criminal legislation in this area.
