On the issue of the sustainability of the green agenda in the context of global crises using the example of the behavior of oil and gas companies

Sustainable development, green economy, ESG and similar terms have been the mainstream of the global economy for decades. Concerns about the future of our planet at international and national levels, especially in environmental terms, provoke an appropriate response from government institutions, society, business. In this regard, ideas of economic processes rational development and use of limited resources are very popular. International organizations (such as UN) are creating framework agreements on climate and related issues, governments are making legislative efforts to change the situation, consumers are choosing green products, and businesses are responding accordingly to such requests, demands and regulations. However, such phenomena as global economic and geopolitical crises significantly influence behavior of companies, often forcing them to change policies. In difficult conditions, commitment to ESG principles is in a certain sense jeopardized, especially in the environmental aspect. Here, the actions of oil and gas companies in recent years are indicative.
