Quality of institutional environment and economic competitiveness of Russian North

The article establishes a point about possible increase in the economic competitiveness of the Russian North in conditions of globalization and growing role of the institutions. Using empirical data the author proves that the quality of the institutional environment in the regions, bordering on highly developed EU economies, improves beneficially influencing their competitiveness.
