The article analyses traditional approaches to education quality assessment in Russian and foreign universities, their advantages and disadvantages. The authors discuss both the prospects and possible excessive formalization of quality management systems in higher education. Satisfaction of various participants of the educational process is considered as an indicator of the education quality, which has its disadvantages as well. Monitoring surveys are considered as an element of the quality system and the feedback mechanism of the effective university management system.
