In the course of the study, the current state of the information technology sector in the Russian Federation was determined and the situation of personnel shortage of specialists was revealed. Special emphasis is placed on the analysis of the changes that occurred after the start of a special military operation in February 2022. Measures to support the Russian information technology sector and the benefits applied to specialists in this field by the state have been identified. It is concluded that today the shortage of personnel in the industry has worsened and the outflow of specialists has increased after the recent events in Ukraine, but in the coming years we should expect a significant number of new specialists to appear, which will be facilitated by the implementation of a number of state programs and projects to train personnel, attract young people and schoolchildren to the industry. But even today, it is necessary to search for point solutions for staffing the most market-demanded areas in the field of domestic software development and cybersecurity.
