Kalmyk women's headdress as a symbol of ethnic identity

Бесплатный доступ

This article attempts to describe one of the main thematic groups associated with the names of traditional outerwear, in particular, hats, while touching upon ethnocultural, linguistic and ethnographic data. The Kalmyks' headdress was especially revered and considered a symbol of freedom. Many ceremonies, rituals and beliefs are associated with it. The female headdress was a defining marker of social and gender and age differentiation. The article discusses women's headdresses — tamsha, кamchatka, khalvŋ, khajilγa, toortsq. It is interesting that the shape of the Kalmyk hadzhilga, halvng / halmag hats and the design of the Kalmyk wagon form a circle and a square in the plan. The headdress in the symbolic system of the Kalmyk costume is a traditional marker of the upper mythological zone, and the obligatory attributive red top of any headdress of the ulan hall ‘red brush’ is a symbol of the sun, a solar sign
