On the 5th May of 2018 200 years have passed since the birth of Karl Marx - a great scientist and public figure who was a founder of the communist theory and had a great impact on the world, tendencies of its development. The article deals with the prerequisites, conditions, and theoretical foundations of the main components of K. Marx’s revolutionary doctrine. Attention is drawn to his personal qualities as a thinker, researcher, revolutionary. It is noted that he had a sharp mind, unusual performance, courage, a will of iron, heightened sense of justice, simplicity, love of life. The article reveals his most important scientific discoveries, including the concept of the materialist understanding of history, the theory of surplus exchange value, the doctrine of driving forces of history, the theory of formations and the civilizational theory, the ideas about revolution and its forms, the dictatorship of the proletariat, etc. Marx and Engels proved that capitalism is a historically failing social system which dead-end stage is modern globalization. A vivid example of such degradation is today's Russia, caught in the grip of a greedy oligarchy, which while producing nothing exploits the people, cash in on their labor and the country's resources. The current situation in Russia and in the world as a whole testify to the vitality and relevance of Marx's teachings.
