The article examines the problems of picturesqueness of language and historical narrative in the light of the linguistic turn carried out by L. Wittgenstein, whose ideas actively influenced Anglo- American and continental European thought of the second half of the XX - beginning of the XXI century. The book “Linguistic Turn and Historical knowledge in the Western philosophy of the XX- XXI centuries” is being discussed in its format, in which a comparative analysis of the views of Western authors on the specifics of the narrative organization of historical cognition and narration is carried out.
