We devote the article to the study of the category “economic resources”, as well as its relationship with the category “economic space.” Attention is drawn to the process of changing the meaning of “economic resources” over time during societal crises. In the study, we looked back at concepts and individual views that reflected various contexts where the categoryof “economic resources” was analyzed and an attempt was made to understand how they are distributed in space. The object of study is economic resources. The purpose of the paper is to determine the key prerequisites for the modern application of the category “economic resources.” The subject of the study is the attributes of economic resources. The authors used the main approaches to economic research: historical, logical, cognitive, normative, empirical, etc., as well as analysis methods (complex, statistical, comparative, retrospective content analysis), indicative methods, economic, and mathematical modeling. The results of the work and their novelty are that the author's definition of the concept of “economic resources” is presented in relation to the category of “economic space.” The broad umbrella of “economic resources” was subjected to a retrospective investigation and review of existing theoretical approaches. After systematizing the linkages between the expression “economic resources” and associated subjects, the elements of the category's relationships were found. They present two groups: “flat” and “volumetric” categories. Recommendations for the practical use of the results. The research materials can be used in the process of spatial management improvement and planning at the national level, considering the current geopolitical and geoeconomic situation.
