The article is a research on the history of the Kazan Cathedral in St. Petersburg. It gives an account of the history of the cathedral from the construction of the Church of Nativity of the Theotokos in the epoch of Anna Ioannovna (1733) until the consecration of the magnificent Kazan Cathedral, erected in its place during the reign of Alexander I (1811). The events of the history of the cathedral are considered within the context of Russian political history. The article is provided with numerous citations of both Russian and foreign authors and witnesses of the historical events described.
