In the article the problem-theme and genre-poetic aspects of the world-wide work by the English writer R.Kipling, one of the pioneers of the Anglo-Indian problem in the English literature, are analyzed. In the article it is proved that the novel Kim passes out the frame of the colonial genre, realizing in its fictional wholeness multiple genre structure. Reflections on genre polyvalence are related to the analysis of one of the translations of the novel in Russian, published in 1991 by the Perm Book House.
