The article based on documents of archives of St. Petersburg and Moscow studies the activity of movie theatres in Leningrad in 1941-1945. It shows the statistics of cinemas in the city and the dynamics of attending them by the audience. The author emphasize that the official tax on cinema didn't give the significant income into the state budget. The article lists the most popular films, which were shown in blockaded Leningrad, such as «Chapaev», «Volga-Volga», «Jolly Fellows» (Veselyje rebjata), «Alexander Nevsky», «Foundling» (Podkidish), «Tractor-Drivers» (Traktoristy), «Swineherd Girl and the Shepherd» (Svinarka i pastukh) and etc. It's noticed that the importance of the cinematograph during the war was grasped at the state level, and that was reflected in the number documents adopted by State Defense Committee.
