The development of the American post-war propaganda apparatus is one of the most pressing issues in the study of the Cold War. Despite this, however, the problems associated with the systemic use of cinema as a means of ideological influence during this period received practically no coverage. The article is the first attempt to consider the place and role of film propaganda as a structural element in the system of the American propaganda mechanism under Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower. For this purpose the main stages in the development of the US propaganda apparatus are established and characterized. The work of the US Information Agency, the connections and relationships between the CIA representatives and Hollywood filmmakers are investigated. The analysis enables the author to draw the conclusion about the evolution of the propaganda influence mechanisms in the United States by the end of the 1950s, as well as about the formation of film propaganda as one of the main tools of the ideological Cold War struggle.
