Sinology at the far eastern federal university: history of study

The history of university Sinology in the Russian Far East during the 1920-1930s, which deals with the development of one of the Far Eastern orientalist schools, is among the topical problems of modern historiography of Russian Orientalism. It is noted that Russian experts, institutions, research organizations and universities have made a significant contribution to the Sino-Russian cultural exchange. The Chinese department of the FENU (Far Eastern National University) has educated a pleiad of outstanding domestic sinologists, among them: M.I. Sladkovsky, R.V. Vyatkin, V.Ya. Sidikhmenov, and others. These scholars played an important role in the development of Russian Sinology and in the implementation of a number of state tasks. The article reveals the importance of the study of Orientalism in the 1920s and 1930s, examines the publications of Russian and Chinese scholars, containing their views on the dynamics of Sino-Russian relations in this period, and on the development of Orientology.
