The end of the 1980s was marked by the emergence of a new generation of young poets in China, which led to further fundamental changes in the Chinese literature. The poets of "misty poetry" that had been developed that time actively interacted under the auspices of "Today" 今天 (Jintian) magazine, where Bay Dao, Shu Ting, Gu Cheng, Jiang He and others published their works. Then "the second wave of poetry" 第二次 诗 潮 (di er ci shichao) came, also called "the third generation poetry" 第三 代 诗歌 (di san dai shige), "post-misty poetry" 后 朦腿诗 (hou menglong shi), "the poetry of a new generation" 新生代 诗 (xinsheng daishi). These trends were characterized by general orientation of introducing new linguistic forms and artistic experiments. Chinese critics called this phenomenon "avant-garde poetry". Since 1978, a new understanding of modern poetry in China had emerged, and it a kind of revelation for readers over 30.
